![]() After my B.E, at a time when I was still wondering about whether HR would be of interest to me, fortuitously, I got a job at “The Recruiters”. At that point, I had no idea of what recruitment was all about, what I had to do or where I was headed. Now after almost ten months I know I am totally in love with my job .To begin with, being a recruiter is the most responsible job that I can think of – it involves managing your Client, candidate & your organization…. Three different entities that have the same destination but different paths to that destination – does sound like a Herculean task but the only things you need is to be able to think quickly on your feet and to be able to sell, If you can get this right 50% of your work is done. Secondly, it gives me immense pleasure to find the “right fit” - changing one individual’s career and life, while also adding huge value to an organization...after all one person DOES make such a difference. And the most important part, recruitments has also given me immense knowledge by being involved in a myriad of different industries and speaking with different industry professionals. Every new opening and every new client means exposure to many new details that I wasn’t aware of earlier. Being in recruitments I have learnt that understanding your client as well as candidate, and being sure they understand you, is the first step towards a successful closure…. Of course I have had my share of fun too which comes from things like…. pictures on resumes....the more bizarre the picture the bigger the laugh... I also once had a resume with the following details – “Born on 26th March 1973 (Official Records)”… “Middle-class Orthodox family background”…”Firm believer of Joint family system”… Whilst they may be proud family members, how is that going to help anyone get a job? And “official records”!!!!!!!... There could be an endless list of all the experiences I have had as an recruiter.....Through this article I tried to share some of those and what being a recruiter means to me. |
